Obituary

On Friday, July 24, 2020, David Aaron Neal, beloved son and loving husband, passed away at the age of 46.  David was an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, along with being Cherokee, Caddo, Delaware & Wichita.

David was born on July 31, 1973 in Dallas, TX to Irene (Vigil) and Dean Neal. He graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 1991, music cluster. Attended The University of North Texas with a clarinet music scholarship and graduated from The Art Institute of Dallas with the degree of Associate of Applied Science in Video Production. David worked at NCH Corporation for 17 years. On March 26, 2011, he married Jennifer Louise Battiest.

David is survived by his wife Jennifer, his beloved parakeet, Chirpy, his grandmother Rev. Dr. Lois Glory Neal, his mother and father, Irene and Dean, his brother Damon, and loving family from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Georgia.

He was known to family and friends for his ability to play the Native American flute, his knowledge of music theory and music history from classical to rock. As well as for his quick offbeat sarcastic humor, his love of karaoke and his ability to authentically relate with young people. His athletic ability enabled him to excel in cycling, basketball, baseball, & fast-pitch softball. His biggest passion was running. He acquired a large collection of marathon, half marathons, and other distance medals including two from the New York City Marathon.

He was an active member at Dallas Indian Mission United Methodist Church, as well as being active in the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, July 31, 2020 via Zoom with limited in-service social distance seating at Dallas Indian United Methodist Church, 1203 Hollywood Ave, Dallas, TX 75208. Flowers and donations can be sent to Jeter and Son Funeral Home, 4830 W Illinois Ave Dallas, TX 75211.
