William Edward “Ed” Gulledge, of Dallas, TX, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026. Ed was born on December 17, 1941, in Charlotte, NC, to Albert Dewey Gulledge and Susie Mae Smith. 

Ed was a naturally inquisitive child, and at a very young age acquired a book on piano tuning that was being thrown away. After reading that book, he taught himself the craft, which turned into a lifelong passion and business. He also spent several years working for Xerox before retiring. As a lifelong lover of the arts, Ed played violin with the Irving Symphony Orchestra and First Dallas Orchestra for years and was also in the church choir at the Dallas First Church of the Nazarene, where he was an active and devoted member.

On February 14,1962, Ed married his forever Valentine, Phyllis Marie Gulledge. They shared more than 64 years of marriage together, which included creating countless beautiful memories with each other, as well as with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and additional family and friends.

Ed was the epitome of a family man. He prioritized everyone’s needs before his own. He was reliable, steadfast, and a devoted provider. He extended that same love to those who weren’t his biological children or grandchildren, many of whom lovingly called him ‘Daddy Ed’ or ‘Grandpa’. Outside of work and family, Ed was no stranger to a passion project. This included working on pipe organs (including installing one in his own home), refurbishing violins and pianos, collecting and repairing ham radios, pottery, restoring vehicles, digging up and collecting antique bottles, and more. To know Ed was to know that he always had a new side project that he was fully immersed in. 

Ed is survived by his wife, Phyllis Marie Gulledge, his son, David Lynn Gulledge, his grandchildren, Crecia Gulledge Magee, Stephen Edward Gulledge Jr., Candace Marie Gulledge, Ashley Joy Gulledge, Lily Gulledge, and his great-grandchildren, Minnie Grace Gulledge and Harry Keith Gulledge, as well as his nephew, Albert Anthony Gulledge and extended family members and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Dewey Gulledge and Susie Mae Smith, his son, Stephen Edward Gulledge, his grandson, Nickolas Brandon Gulledge, and his brother, Albert Dewey Gulledge Jr. 

A celebration of life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 3pm at the Jeter & Son funeral home, located at 4830 W. Illinois Ave. Dallas, TX 75211. Ed will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him. Remembered most for being a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all.
