It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Wilho (Bill) Oliver Kemppainen Jr., age 73, who passed away on December 10, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. A proud Vietnam War combat veteran, Bill served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, in the 1st Cavalry Division. During his service, he was awarded numerous medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and his bravery and sacrifice remain an inspiration to all who knew him. Bill dedicated his life to serving his country and his family, embodying unwavering courage, selflessness, and resilience—qualities he carried both on the battlefield and in his personal life.

Born on September 29, 1951, in Hancock, MI, Bill enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17 and served in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. After his service, Bill worked as a firefighter for the City of Fort Worth for many years, in addition to working for the U.S. Post Office.

Bill was known for his love of sports, horse racing, and the occasional trip to the casino. He had an enduring love for his family, friends, and community. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Darlene Kemppainen; his children, son Wilho Oliver Kemppainen III (Chandra Menkveld), and daughters Emily Parker, Elizabeth Kemppainen, and Ellin Kemppainen; his brothers Jack Kemppainen (Diane Evanger), Jon Kemppainen, Paul Kemppainen (Filicitas Estrada); his sister, Susan (Lamar) Torrance; his grandchildren, Savannah and Elise Kemppainen, and Kaysi and Kaleb Parker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Wilho Sr. (Joyce) Kemppainen; his brothers Gary Kemppainen, Jr. and Robert O'Conner; his sisters Jeanne Holliday and Patricia Kemppainen; and his nephews Jamie Kemppainen and Cougar Kemppainen.

A funeral service to honor his life and legacy will be held at the DFW National Cemetery on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.

Bill's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his strength and kindness.
