Virginia Ruth Long, (Mema Gina) passed away peacefully at the age of 91, in Desoto, Texas. She was born on April 18, 1934, in McCaskill, Arkansas and a resident of Dallas, TX for 69 years.
She was a devoted and faithful member of Cockrell Hill United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She had a passion for music which included singing, being in the church choir, playing the piano as well as other instruments. Her career included employment with John A. Green Co. and Army & Air Force Exchange as an Administrative Assistant. She will be remembered as someone who loved her family, church family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Cleveland A. Hamilton; mother Ruth Whiteside Hamilton; her husband of 67 years, Samuel E. Long; 1 sister Velma H. Morgan; 3 brothers: Reese F. Hamilton, Van E. Hamilton, and Loy G. Hamilton.
She is survived by 2 daughters Rebecca Bauer of Dallas, TX and Donna Johnson (Tony) of Flomaton, AL; 3 Grandchildren: Jake Johnson (Heather) of Birmingham, AL; Justin Johnson (Brianna) of Flomaton, AL; Kelsie Johnson (Steven) of Cantonment, FL; 5 great grandchildren, Audrey, Isaiah, Liam, & Noah Johnson and Cooper Burson, 1 step great-granddaughter Lilly Tindell. In addition, she is survived by four nieces and five nephews.
Her love, kindness and sweet smile will never be forgotten.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Both services will take place in the chapel of Jeter & Son Funeral Home, located at 4830 West Illinois Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75211.
