Obituary

Vernon Mimms, III

February 11, 1946 ~ September 27, 2025

Vernon Mimms, III (affectionately known as "Vern") was born on February 11, 1946, in Tampa, Florida, to Vernon Mimms, II. He passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Desoto, Texas, at the age of 79.

Vernon was a proud graduate of Castle Heights High School in Lebanon, Tennessee, in 1964, and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, where he studied from 1964 to 1968. His early interest in technology and innovation led him to a successful career with Texas Instruments and later with Remax Realty.

In 2021, Vernon met the love of his life, Margaret C. Mimms, at Mi Taza restaurant. The two married and shared a joyful and meaningful partnership grounded in deep respect and shared values. Vernon also served his country through the Marine Corps ROTC, a commitment he carried with pride throughout his life.

A man of many interests, Vernon was known for his deep knowledge of World War II history and was an avid reader and follower of current events, especially through Fox News. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time in the kitchen, sharing his love of cooking with family and friends. Vernon's intelligence and wit were well known, and his outgoing personality made a lasting impression on everyone he met. His strong opinions, particularly his admiration for Donald Trump, were a notable part of his personality—always delivered with his signature quick wit and charm.

Vernon was a devoted member of Cedar Heights Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret Mimms; his sister Virginia Deboliac; his son Vernon Mimms, IV; his daughter Vicki Droegemeier; and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Vernon's life will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cedar Heights Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas.
