Obituary

Velva Jean Christopher Patton, born December 14, 1942, in Phoenix Arizona, left us peacefully on May 27, 2026, to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Her parents, Della and Walter Christopher, moved from Arizona to Texas when Velva was just a young girl. It was there that God brought her together with her one true love and lifetime partner, Dannie Patton.

They struggled at first, living on macaroni and cheese for an entire week at one point, but their faith in God led to many blessings and abundance over the decades.

Velva was an excellent parent, always striving to guide her three sons in the ways of goodness. She always had time to comfort her children during their times of sadness and pain.

She led by example, teaching her children to show sympathy and generosity toward others. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was very good at it.

During her life, she worked a few different jobs, including Nabisco, but the role she truly loved was being a mother.

She was also a woman of integrity, strong morals, and high standards. She did not curse, drink, or smoke, and honored God through her actions. Though all of us fall short of God's majesty, she was the epitome of a "good and faithful servant." The fruit of the Spirit was clearly  evident in the way she lived.

We know she is rejoicing in Heaven and experiencing absolute glory, but her presence here will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

We humbly ask for God's divine comfort as we endure the intense sorrow in our hearts.

She is survived by her sisters, Loretta and Brenda; her sons, Brent (and his wife, Rikki) Shannon Daryl, and Troy (and his wife, Nikki); Eight grandchildren: Sara, Lauren, Amanda, Logan, Lindsey, Ellen (and her husband David) Hunter (and his wife, Jenni), and Tanner (and his wife, Lex). She also dearly loved her 15 great grandchildren: Conner, Peyton, Kylee, Skylar, Cozette, Mathias, Zoey, Olive, Felix, Jack, Camryn, Julian, Madison, Elaina, and Jaico. Her Nieces and Nephews are Nicholas, Kimberly, Karis and Krystal.

Velva Jean leaves behind a wonderful tapestry of memories from a life beautifully lived. She left a legacy of love.

Although we grieve the fact that she has finished her earthly journey, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace in the loving arms of the Lord.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 10 am in the chapel of Jeter and Son Funeral Home, located at 4830 West Illinois Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75211. Following the service, Velva will be laid to rest at Antioch Life Park, 1940 Avenue D, Grand Prairie, TX 75051.
