Rodney Wayne Dotson
Master Sergeant Rodney Wayne Dotson has joined family, friends, and fellow marines, by passing through the gates of Glory, on December 1, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil Wayne and Joyce Pearl Dotson.
He is survived by his wife: Donna Annette Dotson, and their children: Jeffrey Wayne Dotson and wife, Teresa Dotson, James Jacob Dotson and wife Michele Dotson, Jeb Stewart Dotson and his wife, Vanessa Dotson. He leaves a legacy of eight grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
Rodney is also survived by his sister, Pat Jones, brother Keith Dotson and his wife, Maggie Dotson, and brother Harold and his wife, Clarice Dotson. Surviving family includes many nieces and nephews. He loved them all.
Rodney was born in LaJunta, Colorado on April 3, 1947. When the family moved back to Texas, he later attended Spring High School, in Spring, Texas.
In 1966, Rodney enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, in Houston, Texas. He was ordered to Marine Corps Boot Camp in San Diego, California, April 1966. After military training, he received orders for combat. He arrived in Viet Nam on December 7, 1966. He was honorably discharged April 1969.
Rodney married Donna Annette Westmoreland, July 1, 1969, Spring, Texas. They were high school sweethearts since 1966.
After sons, Jeffrey and Jake were born, Rodney returned to active duty in the United States Marine Corps, January 1973. He was ordered to Camp Pendleton, Californian. In June 1973, his third son, Jeb Stewart Dotson, was born.
Rodney continued service in the USMC, until January 1993. In 1995, he returned to civilian life in Carthage, Texas. He was employed for service with the Texas Department of Corrections, at Bradshaw State Jail. He retired in 2013.
Rodney attended church at Faith Assembly of God Church. He rededicated his life to Jesus Christ in November 2015.
Rodney loved his family, God, and his country.
