Richard
Sifuentes
Dec 21, 1935 — May 1, 2025
Richard Henry Sifuentes
Richard was born on December 21,1935, in Beaumont, Texas, to parents, Refugio Sifuentes and Patricia Vela. He was the baby of twelve brothers and sisters. Richard attended St. Anthony Catholic School and joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduation.
While serving in active duty, Richard married his high school sweetheart, whom he had met at a church dance. In 1965, he moved his young family to Dallas, Texas, to pursue a commercial art career. Richard worked decades as a talented graphic designer in various capacities at companies, such as The Dallas Morning News, LTV, Dixico, and Great American Reserve. But his love for the arts was not limited to his career. On each morning's commute, armed with pens and a pocket sketchbook, he produced numerous bus sketches over the years.
In his spare time he was an avid photographer and painter. On any given weekend, he could be found shooting street photography in downtown Dallas or painting landscapes in the rugged outdoors in the southern outskirts of Dallas.
He was a wanderer who loved to hop in the car for a drive on the weekends and see where life would take him that day. While he always had a camera and art supplies in tow, few may know that he loved discovering a good "junk shop," where he culled the perfect piece for his home. And his acute eye for style and design was evident throughout his home. He was a thrifter before his time.
Richard was also a lover of words. He relished deep conversation, a hearty discussion over the meaning of an obscure word, a good read, as well as putting pen to paper—evidenced by his various journals.
He was a classic film buff and jazz music lover his entire life. Most nights he preferred to close his day with a good classic film. On the road, throughout the day, and in the quiet of the night he savored the complex harmonies and soothing blue notes of jazz greats, from Miles Davis to Marcus Miller, often lulling him to sleep.
Our beloved father, Richard Henry Sifuentes, passed on May 1, 2023. Sleep well, Daddy. Till we meet again... we'll keep the record playing.
