Richard Alan Markham
Age 79
May 4, 1946 – July 2, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Alan Markham, beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle and friend, on July 2, 2025, at the age of 79. Rick's life was one of adventure, passion, love for his family, and a deep commitment to his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, joy, and a heart devoted to serving others.
Born on May 4, 1946 , Rick was a born-again believer who found strength and purpose in his relationship with Christ. His faith was the guiding force in his life, and he was passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with others. Rick attended First Baptist Church Dallas. He also was charter member of Stonebriar church with Chuck Swindoll. He also briefly attended Dallas Theological Seminary. Rick had a special desire to minister to American Indians , offering his time and heart to the communities he loved. His favorite verse was Job 13:15 : "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." This verse reflected Rick's unwavering trust in God, even through life's challenges.
Rick's childhood dream was to work with animals, and he often spoke of his desire to become a veterinarian. Though his path led him to other accomplishments, his love for animals remained a core part of who he was. Over the years, he had a special bond with his pets, particularly his three beloved cats: Bugger , and Muffin , all of whom he mourned deeply, Rick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a Company Commander ( Captain ) in Mannheim Germany as part of the US Army Signal Corps . His leadership, dedication to his troops, and service to his country were sources of great pride throughout his life.
A gifted and driven individual, Rick graduated from Cornell University and went on to earn a Master's degree from the University of Rochester Business School . His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career as a contract programmer , where his sharp intellect and passion for technology made a lasting impact on the industry.
Rick's adventurous spirit extended far beyond his professional life. He ran 100 Pikes Peak Marathons , a remarkable testament to his physical endurance. He embraced the thrill of skydiving, scuba diving, white water rafting and race car driving , always seeking out new experiences that pushed him to his limits. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming the first American team which was from Colorado to summit Sajama's West Ridge (21,463 ft in Bolivia , a feat of strength, perseverance, and a love of the outdoors.
Rick was also passionate about tennis, training with the coach of tennis legend Andre Agassi. His pursuit of self-improvement and passion for athletic challenges made him an inspiration to all who knew him.
Above all, Rick's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his brother, Ronald L. Markham, and his sister-in-law, Carol D. Markham. He was predeceased by his brother Bob, who went to glory with Jesus on April 15, 2024. Rick's legacy also lives on through his nephews, Paul Markham and Craig Markham (and his wife Elena), as well as his grand-niece, Anna Markham,
and grand-nephew, Daniel (Edward) Markham. His love, guidance, and wisdom will continue to inspire them and all who knew him.
A memorial service to honor Rick's life will be held on September 19, 2025 , at 3:30pm , at the Dallas - Fort Worth National Veterans Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highland Country Fellowship in Dallas, First Baptist Church Dallas, or Fellowship Dallas
