Richard Innes Crisp, a longtime resident of Duncanville, passed away at home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the age of 99, with his daughter by his side.
Richard was born at home in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas on June 1, 1927. He attended Dallas schools but left school at an early age to help support his family, first delivering newspapers and later telegrams. His hard work and determination led to a job in the mailroom at WFAA/KGKO Radio. Over the years, he worked his way up to operating the control panel.
In April 1945, like so many young men of his generation, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country. After boot camp in San Diego and radar training, he was sent to Japan as part of the Occupation forces, serving aboard the USS Aurelia (AKA-23) and later the USS Somervell County (LST-1129).
Just two days after returning home from the Navy, Richard met the love of his life, Jo Ann Barrow. They were together from that day on. They married on June 3, 1949, made their home in Oak Cliff, and shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised four daughters: Chris, Cindy, Celia and Caroline. Family was always the center of Richard’s life.
Richard also loved sports cars. Over the years he owned and restored many classics, including MGs, MGBs and Austin-Healeys. His favorite, though, was his burgundy Morgan Plus 4, which he enjoyed driving just a little faster than the speed limit whenever he could.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Christina Tate Nicholson and Richard A.P. Crisp; his beloved wife of 68 years, Jo Ann; and his daughters, Chris, Cindy and Celia.
He is survived by his daughter Caroline Crisp and son-in-law Bruce Myers; his four grandsons, Britton Myers, Michael Schulz, Jon Clinkenbeard and Austen Clinkenbeard; his niece, Dandra Waxman; and his nephew, Jimmy Dean Jr.
Richard will be remembered for his love of family, his service to his country, and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work, loyalty and quiet strength. Those who knew him will remember his quick smile, his love of cars, and the many stories and memories he leaves with all of us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Tyler Street Church, 927 W. 10th Street, Dallas, Texas 75208.
