Paul Lawrence
Johnson
Oct 7, 1937 — Oct 22, 2022
Paul Lawrence Johnson was born in Dallas, TX on October 7, 1937, to Tilllman Alfred Johnson and Ida Jean Weeks Johnson. The family moved to Honey Grove when he was young to operate a Western Auto Store, and Paul graduated from Honey Grove High School in 1957.
He married Bettye Sue Brown in 1960; she preceded him in death in 2014.
Paul attended school in Dallas to become an X-ray Technician and was recruited to San Angelo. He retired in 2001 after a 38 year career.
He loved to camp. As a Boy Scout leader, he took his troops camping every month regardless of the weather. He took troops to Philmont in New Mexico twice and was awarded the Silver Beaver award for his distinguished service.
Later he loved to participate in historical re-enactments of Western Frontier life. He especially enjoyed portraying Judge Roy Bean, or a French trapper. Paul's family called the Boy Scouts for adults because they slept in canvas tents and cooked on open fires.
After retiring in 2001, they moved to Midlothian, TX.
Paul is survived by his son Todd A. Johnson; daughter Tamara (Tammy Johnson Drake and her husband Tony; brother Charles Johnson and wife Sonya; grandchildren Meritt Anne Drake and Nathan Todd Drake; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday November 3, 2022 at Jeter & Son Funeral Home, Cedar Hill Chapel, 332 Cedar St., Cedar Hill, TX 75104.
