Melody
Nye
Oct 15, 1961 — Jan 21, 2024
Margaret "Melody" Nye passed away on January 21, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. Melody, the only child of George and Harriet Nye, was born on October 15, 1961, in Dallas. Her family lived in the Oak Cliff area, and she graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School in 1980. As a senior there she was elected to the Knights of the Round Table (the school's highest honor), performed in many plays and musicals as well as the New Tyme Singers; served as President of the Science Club, and editor of the school's literary magazine Idylls.
Melody studied at Wellesley College in Massachusetts where she majored in Art History and Medieval/Renaissance Studies. While in college she assisted the curators of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
Melody pursued her career in Boston with several non-profits before moving back to Texas. She eventually returned to the Dallas area to assist her parents in their final days.
Melody loved all aspects of the arts and was an enthusiastic volunteer for Uptown Players, the Sammons Center for the Arts, Theater Three, Lyric Stage, Water Tower Theater, the Dallas Museum of Arts, KERA, and many other local non-profits. She will be greatly missed by these organizations.
In addition to volunteering, she also enjoyed attending plays, art exhibits, and lectures. Melody had a prolific memory and could tell you every play that each actor had been in or every detail of a painter's life. She maintained many friendships with those she met at these events.
Melody was determined to keep the art of correspondence alive. She marked almost every holiday with cards to friends all over the country – Valentines, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween, and of course Christmas and birthdays. Each card was covered front and back with a story or fond memory. If it weren't for the fact that her notes included mention of the menu and dinner conversation, we would have suspected that her thank you notes after a meal were written ahead of time they came so quickly!
Melody is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her cousins Nancy O'Steen (husband Steve), Kenny Oringderff (wife Maryann); Karen McCall (husband Henry); Beth Mosteller, and Beverly Wilgus (husband Jack) as well as many dear friends. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or a local theatre or art museum of your choice.
