Maxine Flick
Harkenrider
Jun 6, 1925 — Aug 25, 2022
Maxine Ruth Flick Harkenrider, age 97 of Duncanville, passed away on August 25, 2022 with family in prayer by her side.
She was born on June 6, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Pauline Salata and Nicholas Flick.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, parents and brother Rudolph Flick and sister-in-law Ann Flick. She is survived by her daughters Joan Harkenrider, Monica Radoszewski (Anthony), Donna Bullis (Craig), Laure Jones (Robin), Lisa Brochu (David) and Amy Manning (John), 15 grandchildren: 2 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She grew up in Chicago near Lake Michigan and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School. Maxine was proud of her work with the Chicago Crime Commission. She also worked at Inland Steel in their medical offices and considered a nursing career before motherhood steered her in another direction. Maxine reconnected with a childhood classmate, fell in love and married Ralph Harkenrider on Jan 21, 1950. They shared 63 wonderful years together raising their 6 daughters in Illinois, New York and finally in Texas.
Maxine was a loving wife and mother dedicated to supporting the ambitions and interests of her family. She'd be "front and center" at her daughters' events, chauffeuring to and from school and volunteering at church bingo games and rummage sales. Max was an excellent dancer and when she was worn out from polkas with her husband, she had plenty of daughters to carry on out on the dance floor. She also ran "Rusty's" - a popular lunch spot in downtown Ft. Worth serving yummy chili cheese dogs and Frito pies while her daughters finished high school and college. As her grandchildren grew, "Oma" was there to support them as often as she could. She told everyone her favorite color is green and her middle name is "hamburger"! Maxine was blessed with many dear friends all over the country and enjoyed traveling to visit her family and friends. She was always ready to play bunco, liked to watch Dancing with the Stars and Shark Tank, rooted for Dirk and later Luka when the Dallas Mavericks played basketball, worked crossword puzzles every day, and appreciated a good dirty martini!
