Obituary

Mark Gardner Snyder was born May 12, 1949 in Dallas,TX to John Allison Snyder and Juanita Gardner Snyder. He passed away on the evening of August 25, 2023 in Dallas, TX.

While growing up, Mark attended school in Oak Cliff where he also was a Boy Scout who earned the God & Country medal. His time with the Scouts culminated in earning the prestigious distinction of Eagle Scout. During his middle and high school years, he played the tuba, and he graduated from Sunset High School in 1967. He enjoyed playing the electric bass and touring throughout Texas with the popular musical groups the New Generation Singers and Young Country in the late 1960s and into the 1970s. He also toured southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, playing concerts for the troops as a member of the USO.

Mark enrolled at Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business in 1967 and earned his BBA in Accounting, played the baritone horn in the Mustang Marching Band, and participated in the business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. In 1971 he married Donna Lynn Mooring. Upon graduation from SMU in 1972, he joined his father's CPA practice, Snyder & Snyder, where he would work for the remainder of his life. In the late 1970s, he and Donna welcomed their three children into the family: Jeremy, Jason, and Jessica. Mark also joined the Oak Cliff Lions Club where he was a faithful member for close to 50 years. Following in his father's footsteps, he served one year as President of the Lion's Club and occasional bass player for the annual Lion's Club Extravaganza. He walked through the last fifteen years of his life with Susan Nash, his partner, at his side. He loved making people laugh and gathering with his friends for living room concerts and SMU events. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the State Fair of Texas, sometimes nightly, and in recent years, he served on the Chairman's Task Force and as a Scholarship Program Donor. He loved eating BBQ at Baker's Ribs on a weekly if not a daily basis.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Allison Snyder; his mother, Juanita Gardner Snyder; his sister, Victoria Marshall; his brother, Dana Snyder; his granddaughter, Kyla Allison Snyder. He is survived by his companion of almost fifteen years, Susan Nash; his brother, John Allison Snyder; his sister, Barbara Herrod; his children, Jeremy, Jason, and Jessica Snyder; his daughters-in-law, Laura Snyder, Jackie Snyder, and Kim Downs; his grandsons, Evan, Chase, Blake, Jude, and Levon.
