Maria Muniz

Maria Muñiz Banda was born on September 27, 1948, in San Luis Potosí and passed away at her home in Cockrell Hill, Texas, on June 23, 2026.

In April 1970, Maria and Juan Muñiz were united in holy matrimony and remained faithfully devoted to one another for 56 years.

A natural gardener, Maria possessed a remarkable green thumb—anything she put into the earth flourished beautifully. Yet, the things she nurtured most were her relationships. Her absolute truest joy was her family, and she poured endless love into caring for her grandchildren.

Maria’s heart always remained connected to her roots. Any chance she got, she traveled back to Rancho De Arriba to reunite with her siblings. Together, they would spend hours catching up while baking fresh gorditas in her mother’s traditional brick oven.

Daily, Maria found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She started every morning with a cup of coffee, a side of animal cookies, and a heartfelt “Salud,” usually paired with lively conversation with her family and neighbors. In the evenings, she loved to relax and unwind by tuning into La Rosa de Guadalupe and the Home Shopping Network.

Maria was a member of New Praise Worship Center, where she faithfully served and worshipped for over 10 years.

Maria will always be remembered for her loving nature, genuine kindness, and playful spirit, anchored by a remarkably strong will. To know Maria was to love her; she was a deeply loving, magnetic soul who was wonderfully easy to get along with.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Jesus Muñiz; her parents, Nestor and Juana Banda; and her brother, Chabel Isabel Banda.

She is survived by her husband, Juan Muñiz; her children, Omar Muñiz, Daniel Muñiz, Norma Muñiz Cataño and Son-in-law Fernando Cataño, and Roxanne Gaona and Son-in-law Ricardo Gaona; her siblings, Bertha, Emilio, Amelia, Alex, Francis, Marcelo, Palemon, and Jorge; her grandchildren, Serena, Omar Jr., Zachary, Daniel Jr., Deanna, Giovonni, Danielle, Bianca, Matthew, Damian, Alyssa, Charisma, Nicasio, Angelique, Frankie, Noah, Mark, and David; and her great-grandchildren, Juliet, Julian Santino, Jamarieo, Nyehli, Sariah, River, Rococo, Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Ambrose.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. at Jeter & Son Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens.
