Obituary

Maria Antonieta Elizondo

Mrs. Maria Antonieta Zamora de Elizondo went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 19th, 2024 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 73.

She is survived by her four adult children (Joe, Janie, Richie, and Marlene), four children-in-law (Mayra, Ricky, Teresa, and Ray), ten grandchildren (Candy, Richard, Angel, Ricardo, Elizabeth, Samuel, Patrick, Abigail, Ariel, and Philip), five great-grandchildren (Jaasiel, Amarissa, Dagoberto, Jr., Lydia, and Richard), as well as two sisters (Marta and Ana) and numerous extended family members, neighbors, and loved ones.

Antonieta is preceded in death by her dear mother (Graciela "Mama Chela" Garcia Flores), and her beloved husband (Jose Angel "Chepo" Elizondo Morales).

Mrs. Elizondo was born in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico on January 1st, 1951. She grew up in the cities of Parras and Nueva Rosita in Coahuila, where she met her husband in the 1960s. Antonieta and Chepo immigrated to the United States in 1966 to successfully pursue the American dream. They resided in San Antonio, Texas for several years before settling in Dallas, Texas.

Antonieta was a dedicated homemaker who had a passion for cooking and entertaining. She delighted in her family and loved to sing and dance beautifully. She was a coffee afficionado decades before it was cool. Antonieta had an impressive collection of kick-knacks and oddities. Mexican sweet bread was her weakness, and watching telenovelas or reading Spanish romance novels was a favorite pastime. Since childhood, she raised a varied assortment of pets at home, and she passed along her pure love of animals to so many of her family members. Sharing a wise word of advice and / or a silly joke to all who would listen was never beyond her. Antonieta was always ready and willing to generously help others, and always prefered to do so in anonymity.

Mrs. Elizondo was known for her witty sense of humor and infectious laughter. She was the embodiment of a free spirit, and often referred to herself as a "hippie". She wasn't one to go by the rules. Antonieta had a memorably unique fashion sense, as she preferred vividly colorful sundresses, loose-flowing hair, and going barefoot over any sort of more formal attire. Although sometimes seen as rebellious and unorthodox in her approach to life, she was always humbly led by faith and love. To her children, she was the first example of what a true Christ-follower lived like. To her husband, she was unwaveringly devoted. To her loved ones, she was a beacon of joyful hope.

Antonieta loved tremendously and forgave vastly. She had an innate childlike wonder, and it's believed that Antonieta never met a stranger in her life. She made lifelong friends with countless people, regardless of their beliefs, race, sexuality, religion, or socio-economic standings. Antonieta believed in the importance of having fun above all else, and she never took life too seriously. Regardless of how hard life may have knocked her, she had an incomparable resiliency, and always showed up with a smile. Antonieta had a knack for making things seem easy and was exceptionally approachable. She was the epitome of warmth.

We celebrate Antonieta's one-of-a-kind spirit and tenacity to bring positivity everywhere she went. She left an irreplaceable impression in our lives; she will forever be one-of-one.
