Leroy J. Linder
July 2, 1929 - August 10, 2024
LeRoy John Linder was born July 2, 1929 to John Linder and Nina Marie Ferb in Menno, South Dakota. He passed from this life on August 10, 2024 at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 55 years, Hazel Ann Linder, his sister Margaret Stenstom, his parents and his close friend Valerie Peterson. He was the oldest of three children and when he was 12 the family moved to Enumclaw, Washington.
At the age of 21 just before the Korean War began LeRoy joined the Air Force and served four years, serving 2 ½ of those in Japan and South Korea. He was then transferred to Burgstom Air Force Base in Austin. LeRoy met Hazel Hartman at a square dance in Austin hosted by the USO. LeRoy and Hazel were married on December 11, 1954 and shortly after moved to Dallas. It took them four years to build their house working on the weekends. Their son, Todd was born in 1964.
LeRoy worked at Great Southwest Corporation and began building projects at a theme park called Six Flags over Texas, he worked on the original sky tram and the log ride. He then went to work at the Peter Wolf Company where he built displays and scenery for musicals and operas, many of those at Fair Park Music Hall. Then while working for the David Gibson Company he was in charge the Texas Instruments displays, and set up displays at the World's Fair in Japan and the Toy Fair in New York. He finished his formal work career with Dallas Stage and Scenery. After retirement he worked for another decade doing home and business remodeling with some of his friends. LeRoy was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Hill.
LeRoy was strong willed and independent, living by himself for the last fifteen years of his life after Hazel's passing. He also seemed to be able to fix almost anything that broke and took great pride in wood working projects for anyone who had need. He loved his Lord, his family, his church, his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his sister LeAnn Parker in Lula, Georgia, son Todd, daughter-in-law Karen, grandchildren Rachel and Jonathan, Jonathan's wife Linen and great grandchildren Lucy and Leroy Linder.
