L.C. Jones
June 23, 1928 - September 5, 2023
L. C. Jones, an underaged veteran of World War II, passed away at the age of 95 in Savannah, GA. He grew up in the Dallas area and spent many years on his grandmother's dairy farm in Oak Cliff with his closest cousins, Don and Billie Stem and John Yeatts.
At the age of 15, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served on the General Meigs transporting troops to North Africa and Europe. After the war he married Nancy Caroline Dickens and raised four children.
L. C. 's passion was work. He was first a fearless ironworker and then went to work for Sullivan Transfer in the heavy hauling department where he excelled in rigging. He ended his career there as sales manager. In addition, he taught welding at Mountain View Junior College.
He was a Past Master of Oak Cliff Masonic Lodge #705. He enjoyed golf, sailing, hunting, and camping. He was also an avid math and computer enthusiast. Most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved dogs, Molly and Bella, who both predeceased him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his son William David Jones, his parents Lura and Rubye Hogue Jones, his sister Betty Jean Jones Bryant, his half-brother Leland Jones, and his half-sister Martha Alice Jones Meeks.
He is survived by his children: Deborah (Greg) Duffey, Patti (Jerry) Peebles, and Steven Jones; his grandchildren: Jennifer Duffey, Jeffrey Duffey and partner Matt Maynard, Michael (Alma) Duffey, Caroline (William) Christiansen, Victoria Peebles, Jason Jones, and Carrie Jones; his nephews Mark and Greg Bryant; and numerous other cousins and relatives, all of whom he loved dearly. Special thanks are owed to his neighbors, Ken and Sandi Myers Hagmueller.
L. C. was a truly unforgettable character. He has left a legacy of witty sayings and memorable anecdotes. He will always be in our hearts.
