Lazaro Duran Jr. "Laz," 86, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026. Born on January 11, 1940, Laz lived a life rooted in dedication to his family, service to his country, and love for the people around him.
Laz proudly served in the United States Army from May 13, 1963, to May 14, 1965, where he earned recognition as a sharpshooter. His time in the military reflected the strength, discipline, and resilience that carried throughout his life.
Following his military service, Laz worked for the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department, where he dedicated 14 years before retiring. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and helping others whenever he could.
Above all, Laz cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Elena Duran; his stepchildren, Josie Cortez and Juan Carrion Jr.; and his beloved grandchildren, Arlinda, Alexis, Adrena, Justin, Daniel, Juan III, Jonathan, and Brandy. His 13 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandson. His siblings David Duran, Joe and Janice Duran, and Christina and Jim Carben. Along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lazaro and Guadalupe Duran. His siblings Ray and John Duran, and Anna Navarro.
Laz will also be remembered for his unwavering loyalty to the Washington Redskins, proudly standing by his team despite being surrounded by a family full of Dallas Cowboys fans. His sense of humor, strong spirit, and love for family created memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion that will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be Wednesday May 6. 2026, at Jeter & Son Funeral Home, 4830 W. Illinois Ave in Dallas
from 2:00 - 7:00PM with a Rosary at 6:00PM.
Final viewing will be Thursday May 7 at 8:45AM before going to
Dallas / Fort Worth National Cemetery for a 9:30AM interment with military honors.
