Larry
Caraway
Nov 9, 1942 — Dec 25, 2025
Larry Caraway
Larry G. Caraway, 83, passed away Dec. 25 at his home in Cedar Hill, surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
Larry was born on Nov. 9, 1942, in Sherman, Texas, to H.V. and Thelma. He was a standout basketball player at Trenton High School and earned All-State honors in 1961, but chose to enlist in the U.S. Army rather than pursue an athletic career in college.
He married his high school sweetheart, Paula Pierson, on May 28, 1965, in Paris, Texas; the two later moved to Irving, Texas, where they had their first son, Larry James, in 1968. They relocated to Cedar Hill in 1974 after custom-building their home and have resided there since.
Larry successfully owned and operated ABC Sign Company for over 20 years; he retired in 1999 after selling his business.
He was an avid golfer who played almost daily until his mid-70s. He traveled across the Lone Star State, winning four prestigious Father-Son golf tournaments with his son, Larry James. Larry and Paula have been members of the Oak Cliff Country Club since 1974.
Larry's father, H.V., was a Methodist preacher for over 50 years. Larry and Paula have spent their entire lives attending church and are currently members of Tyler Street Methodist Church.
While Larry was known for his quick-witted one-liners and dry sense of humor, he had a softer side. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with others, whether that meant traveling to his grandchildren's sporting events, attending Longhorn football games, golfing with his friends or spending holidays with loved ones.
Larry is survived by his wife, Paula; his daughter (Laurie) and son-in-law (Bob); his sister (Karen) and brother-in-law (Ray); and three grandchildren (Lynnsey and her husband, Price; Levi; Lacey and her husband, Kade).
He was preceded in death by his son, Larry James, and his parents, H.V. and Thelma.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, at Jeter and Sons Funeral Home in Cedar Hill; the service will begin shortly after at 11 a.m.
