Obituary

Jay Charles Irvine, 75, of Azle, TX (formerly of Lumberton, TX) went to his heavenly home on Friday, November 4th, 2022 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth following a brief illness. He was surrounded by love, with his wife and four children by his side.

Jay was born on December 1, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Charles Boyd Irvine and Suzanne Kemp Irvine. His family moved to Ingleside, TX when he was two, and it was there that he spent his youth. He graduated from Ingleside High School in 1965 as the highest ranking boy. Jay attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, TX on a basketball scholarship, but later moved to Beaumont, Texas where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Lamar State College in 1970. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp. Upon completion of his tour, he got a job with Texas Eastern Pipeline in Houston, TX, where he worked as a gas pipeline engineer for ten years. In the early 1980's Jay changed careers and became an insurance agent in Silsbee, TX. In 1993, he opened his own business, and became owner of Irvine Insurance Agency in Lumberton, TX until his retirement in 2021. His clients were always more like good friends and he went above and beyond to serve them all.

Jay first married in 1969, and from that union three children were born, a son Troy, son Chad, who died shortly after birth, and a daughter Mindy. In 1993, Jay married the love of his life Jo Katherine Geen and became the "bonus dad" to her two daughters, Deborah and Deanne. Together, they resided in Lumberton, TX until December of 2021 when they moved to Azle, TX to be closer to family.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Guy Irvine, and his infant son Chad. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 30 years, JoKay; his son Troy Irvine of Port Neches, TX, his daughter Mindy (Vic) DeFazio of Asheville, NC, daughter Deborah Geen Salyers of Hemphill, TX, and daughter Deanne (Jeremy) Torres of Weatherford, TX. Additional survivors include his siblings, sister Gay Irvine Cooper of Ingleside, TX, brother Jac (Ginny) Irvine of San Antonio, TX, brother Jon (Sue) Irvine of Omaha, TX, and brother Kim (Betsy) Irvine of Henrico, VA.

Jay has 10 grandchildren who adore him; Jake, Trey, and Sarah Pattillo; Cody and Dawson Welch; Chad and Morgan Irvine; and Tyler, Ashleigh, and Kaydee Torres.

Also mourning his passing are his many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jay will always be remembered for his kindness to others, quick wit, fun spirit, and his love for his family.
