Obituary

Janice Sue Fanning

September 1, 1952 - September 6, 2025

On September 6, 2025, heaven gained one of its kindest souls when Janice S. Fanning, age 73, passed away at Methodist Central Hospital in Dallas, the same place she was born on September 1, 1952.

Janice was the daughter of the late Joe Fanning and his beloved wife, Mary Lois, who continues to carry on her daughter's legacy at age 98. She was a devoted mother to her son, Chance Weick, and a cherished sister to Rena Honea and Paula B. Nichols. She is reunited in peace with her daddy, Joe, and her sister, Glenda Casey.

Janice began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. at only 16 years old. Over the decades, through corporate changes with AT&T and Lucent Technologies, she built a career marked by reliability and dedication. She retired at just 46 years old with 30 years of service, a testament to her hard work and consistency. She grew up in Oak Cliff where she attended Dallas ISD public schools and went to Grace Temple Baptist Church. Retirement gave her more time for what mattered most—supporting her son at Sparkman High School in Harvest, Alabama where she worked in the registrar's office, and staying connected to her community.

Her life was full of simple joys: watching birds, caring for dogs, laughing with friends, listening to "the oldies", and giving her time to others. She enjoyed events with the Adamson Alumni Association and had compassion for anyone who needed a hand. Janice's warmth was unmistakable—her smile could light up a room; her quick wit and laughter were never forgotten by those who heard it.

To celebrate her life, family and friends will gather on Sunday, October 12th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Adamson High School Library, 309 E. 9th Street, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the W. H. Adamson Alumni Association (https://adamsonalums.org/get-involved/ or P. O. Box 4753, Dallas 75208), an organization that meant so much to her.
