James Alan Hunter, age 82, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026. He was born on January 4, 1944, in Quanah, Texas to the late Therrell “Son” and Annetta Hunter.

James, known to most as “Jim”, was a 1962 graduate of Quanah High School. He played many sports, including football, where he was among the first football team in Quanah history to reach a state football championship game. Following high school, Jim attended Texas Tech University, where he earned his degree in Business Administration and bonded with lifelong brothers in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Between these chapters, he answered the call to service, enlisting in the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War.

Throughout the remainder of his life, Jim was a businessman of rare dedication and steadfast integrity in the corrugated packaging industry. He poured his heart and soul into his work and left a lasting mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. In 2007, he took the leap of faith and opened his own business, Hunter Packaging, Inc., which stood the test of time and became one of his greatest successes. His legacy of hard work will continue to inspire us all. When he wasn’t working, Jim could almost always be found doing what he loved next: chasing a little white ball down the fairway. Whether he was playing an early morning round with close friends, sharing a laugh at the 19th hole, or endlessly searching for his ball in the rough, golf was his ultimate sanctuary. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a guiding light whose wisdom will live on forever.

James leaves behind his son, Marc Hunter (Mary); daughter, Alisa Garland (Noah); brother, Eddie Hunter (Twila); sister, Tara Krieg (Walter); six grandchildren, Hunter, Noah Jr., Cole, Avery, Kace and Vivienne, as well as numerous relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by wife, Patricia Hunter; father, Therrell “Son” Hunter; mother, Annetta Hunter; and daughter, Kristine Marie Hunter.
