Jack Williamson
Taylor
Sep 18, 1928 — Sep 15, 2022
Jack Williamson Taylor was both in North Carolina on September 18, 1928, to Lou Taylor and Janie Williamson. He made his entrance in Heaven on September 15th, 2022, three days before his 94th birthday. He moved to Dallas in the late 1940s and in 1958 he married the love of his life, Betty Russell. He and Betty made beautiful music together until her death in 2014. They served in several churches as pianist and organist.
Jack is also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leon, Robert, Bennie and Bruce and sisters Eva, Nina, Ola Mae, and Ruby. He is survived by his loving daughter Dr. Cindy Taylor, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Jack was a Gospel music pianist, writer, arranger, and editor. He began his career as pianist for the Lone Star Quartet in 1944. In 1946 he joined Elmo Fagg and the Blue Ridge Quartet. In 1951 he began playing for the Stamps All - Star Quartet with Roger Clark, Clyde Garner, Glen Payne, and Haskell Mitchell. He later played for the Stamps - Baxter Quartet with members Clyde and Wilford Roach. While at Stamps - Baxter Jack became the managing editor of the music company and held that position until 1987 when the company was sold to Zondervan. Beginning in the 1950s Mr. Taylor began giving private piano lessons to scores of students. His teaching gifts produced some of the finest musicians and accompanists in the country.
He is recognized as one of the greatest pianists in the history of Gospel music. Bill Gaither, of the Gaither Homecoming concerts is quoted as saying, " Jack Taylor is the greatest Gospel music pianist I have ever heard. " Jack received the Living Legend Award at the Grand Ole ' Gospel Reunion in 1997 and he was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
Jack will be greatly missed by those who love him and those who were taught by him. We rejoice in knowing that he and Betty are once again making beautiful music together.
