Hubert Sayle Sumners

Hubert Sayle Sumners, born on March 21, 1933, passed away peacefully at his home in Grayford, Texas, on October 20, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life touched many.

A proud alumnus of Auburn University, Hubert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and was an active member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. His commitment to service led him to join the Navy in June 1951, where he served until May 1955, retiring as an Electronics Technician, Petty Officer 2nd Class. Hubert was honored with several medals for his service, including the Korean Service Medal, the National Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Sumners and Martha Womack, his beloved wife, Imogene Potter, who passed on August 11, 2012, in Dallas, Texas, and his stepdaughter, Antoinette Henningsmith, who left us on December 10, 2012, also in Dallas.

Hubert is survived by his brothers, Gerald and wife Dorothy Sumners of Huntsville, Alabama, William Sumners of Arlington, Texas, and James and wife Mary Sumners of Carmel, Indiana.

He is also cherished by his grandchildren, Kimberly Trunick, Kristin Lindenbusch, Kyle, and wife Michelle Schultz, along with his great-grandchildren: Cristopeher McLelland, Mason Franklin, Ethan Lindenbush, Savannah Schultz, Katelynn Lindenbusch, Madison Franklin, Sabastian Schultz, Emma Schultz, Gullianna Aguilar, and Dominick Schultz.

Hubert's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to his family and friends and country will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Services will be held on November 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
