Helen Jean
Coleman
Jan 15, 1937 — Feb 21, 2025
Helen Jean Helen Coleman began life as Helen Jean Cox, born at home in her cotton-country community of Paint Creek, Texas on January 15, 1937 to William Seaton "W.S." Cox and Della Louise Montgomery Cox. She passed away in Dallas at the age of 88 on February 21, 2025.
Helen Jean was born the youngest sibling in a loving and lively family of three brothers and a sister--W.S., Vaughn, Othella Jay, and Alice. After graduating from Paint Creek High in 1955, Helen moved to Dallas for work. She soon became one of the very first employees of the Dallas Teachers Credit Union, now Credit Union of Texas. Years later, she would continue her banking work at Texas Federal Savings & Loan, now Chase.
But the real love she gave her life to was family. On April 15, 1960, Helen and Tom Coleman began a wonderful sixty-year marriage. They soon had two sons, Scott and Jeff. Helen enjoyed supporting Tom's work as a DISD principal for decades. She supported every event of her sons and grandchildren. Helen created a warm, welcoming extended family. Her home was often the gathering place for her dear Ovid Avenue neighbors and Cliff Temple Baptist Church friends.
Helen's love of God showed in her joyful activity at Cliff Temple where she loved, was loved, and was active for over sixty years. Helen leaves a loving family of son Jeff and wife Ana, son Scott and wife Kristi, grandchildren Karla and husband Angel Castillo, Corrie and husband Travis Aune, and Ben Coleman, great-granddaughter Camila Helena Castillo, long-cherished nieces and nephews and a wonderful collection of long-time friends.
Helen's memorial service will be held at Cliff Temple Baptist Church, 125 Sunset, Dallas, Texas 75208 at 11am, Friday March 21, 2025.
