Gilbert Orsavala Cuellar

Gilbert Cuellar was born on June 26, 1934, in Ganado, Texas to Feliberto and Anita Cuellar. He passed away on September 8, 2026, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 92. He met the love of his life, Aurora, in Austin, Texas. They had six children and were married for 58 years. Gilbert was a well-respected man who was dedicated to his family. He worked hard throughout his life and was the Assistant Chief Engineer at Promenade. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, old Western television shows, and loved his scratch-off lottery tickets.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Aurora Arroyo Cuellar, his daughter, Gloria Cuellar Zarate, his son, David Arroyo Cuellar, his grandson, Gilbert Cuellar III, his parents and seven sisters. He is survived by his son-in-law, Antonio Zarate, husband of his late daughter, Gloria, and his sons Raymond and wife Carol Cuellar, Gilbert Cuellar Jr., Alfred Cuellar, and Fabian and his wife Rebecca Cuellar; his siblings Joe Cuellar, Virginia Botello, Rosie Saucedo, and Joseph Rodriguez. Gilbert had 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

We will deeply miss Pop and the love, wisdom, and laughter he brought to our lives. When we were with him, we felt safe and loved. Pop’s smile and sense of humor brought joy to our hearts, and he was always so happy to be surrounded by his family. He had the biggest heart and loved unconditionally. We were so blessed to have been part of his life, and we will cherish every memory.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jeter & Son Funeral Home, 4830 West Illinois Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75211.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 4015 S. Hampton Road, Dallas, Texas 75232. Following the Mass, Gilbert will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
