Gary Lee
Musmecci
Nov 8, 1948 — Oct 1, 2024
Gary Lee Musmecci, 75, passed away and went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Born on November 8, 1948, in Los Angeles, California, Gary was a devoted sports enthusiast. He spent 35 joyful years working for the Texas Rangers, where he held various positions across three ballparks. This role allowed him to forge lasting connections with players, staff, and fans alike that lasted until his passing. Gary relished every opportunity to visit the ballpark, cherishing the many friendships he made along the way. His passion extended beyond the Rangers as he avidly followed other local professional and college teams. He also took great pride in supporting his brother-in-law's many years as a coach as well as his nephew, Kellen's years as a coach where he would gleefully offer up a full play-by-play of every game he attended.
Despite facing several health challenges, Gary drew strength and motivation from his connections with co-workers and fans at the ballpark, which inspired him to keep moving forward and with whom he loved dearly like family.
When he wasn't on the golf course, Gary could often be found engaging in spirited conversations about his favorite sports with anyone who would listen. You could also always find him at some sporting event mentoring and supporting James, Paxton, and Kaiden Day whom he considered to be his grandsons-- cheering them on excitedly in all their sporting adventures.
Another of Gary's favorite pastimes was studying scripture; he would spend hours reading, dissecting verses, and researching the archaeology of Biblical topics. He had a deep passion for history, often planning vacations around visiting historical landmarks to experience and study
them firsthand.
It was in 1968 that Gary left California and moved to Texas, where he worked alongside his father at their family meat market. He met his wife, Linda Cervetto, in 1969 shortly after coming to Texas and they were married on November 27, 1970. In 1970, Gary was drafted into the U.S.
Army but was honorably discharged to care for his father as his health declined, allowing him to run the family business.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Geraldine Musmecci and his treasured son, Joey. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his daughter, Gina and son-in-law, Luis Rodriguez-Mayoral and family; his cherished brothers-in-law, Rob Cervetto and wife, Norma; Steve Cervetto and wife, Sue; his sister, Diane Musmecci; his Aunt Pepper Crisp; as well as dearly-loved nephews Kellen Cervetto and family, Barrett Cervetto and family, Matt Brewer and family, and Pat Brewer and family. He also leaves behind beautiful nieces Stacy Cervetto and family and Carey Cranmer and family, along with many cherished cousins, grand nephews, grand nieces, and dear friends, including his lifelong best friend, John Benevides and family.
A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at the National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. A celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:30 PM at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend his Celebration of Life.
