Gary Lynn
Johnson
Nov 7, 1947 — Mar 10, 2023
Gary Lynn Johnson, 75, of Irving, Texas, passed away on March 10, 2023 after a brief hospitalization.
Gary was born on November 7, 1947 to Leslie Johnson, Jr. and Madge Joyce Bisland Johnson in Dallas, Texas. After graduating as a proud Irving Tiger from Irving High School in 1966, he went on to study at North Texas State University and Dallas Baptist University, and eventually graduated with a degree in General Studies in 1985.
Gary was a devoted Christ follower, Bible student, loving husband, and proud father and grandfather.
Gary was a pilot with multiple ratings, including Airline Transportation Rating, having soloed in 1966. He trained many students during his days as a flight instructor as well.
Gary and his wife, Carol Tribelhorn Johnson, were high school sweethearts and married in 1967. They were married for 55 years, and were with each other through all of life's ups and downs.
Gary and Carol would go on to have three children, Patrick, Suzanne, and Matthew. He was the doting grandfather of Ryan, Brendan, Logan, Garrin, Kairi, and Khloe.
Gary began his working life at LTV and then SWBell (AT&T) Telephone, going from a frameman to a manager during his 30+ years with the company. When Gary wasn't working, he could be found diving fully into his many hobbies. Gary was many things over the years: pilot, flight instructor, bowler, cowboy action shooter, horse wrangler and rider at "the ranch," golf marshall and player. Gary dedicated much of his time to flying his homemade flight simulator.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and inlaws. He is survived by his loving wife Carol Triblehorn Johnson; his children Patrick (Kathy) Johnson of Trophy Club, Texas, Suzanne Spears of Lewisville, Texas, and Matthew Johnson of Irving, Texas; grandchildren: Ryan, Brendan, Logan, Garrin, Kairi, and Khloe; and his brother, Vince Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas.
The family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Irving. There will be a viewing at First Baptist Church of Irving on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 12:00-1:00 PM, with a celebration of life service immediately following at 1:00 PM. Burial will be with his maternal grandparents, parents, and uncle at Crown Hill Cemetery.
