Doris Lee Owen

June 3, 1934 - August 1, 2025

Doris Lee Musgrave Owen passed away on August 1, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born on June 3rd, 1934 in Terrell, Texas. She was born at the home of her grandmother to parents Virtna Lorraine Britton Musgrave and Emmett Lee Musgrave.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Johnny Owen, her son Troy Owen, grandson Ricky Gaumond, brother Wayne Musgrave, sister-in-law Jackie Musgrave, brother-in-law Floyd Simpson. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Teresa Owen, granddaughter Kelly,  grandson Troy Jr, and sister Wanda Simpson.

Doris was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in her early years. She played the accordion in the orchestra along with her sister, father and brother. She moved to East Texas and sang in the church choir and worked as a secretary for 10 years. She returned to Dallas where she worked at Lone Star Gas Company for 37 years. She came back to the Gospel Lighthouse Church where she sang in the choir under Mike Tadlock. She played the accordion on Sunday evenings at Church of God for 10 years with Cecil Pollock, Charles Walker, Harold Elkins and Jessie Vail. Doris and her sister played piano and organ at Sterling House Assisted Living in Lancaster, Texas for over 20 years. After the death of her husband, Johnny, she joined Bethel Temple Church where she played the organ for more than 15 years. Doris was involved with home groups, Red Hats of GLC and Red Hats of North Texas. She was an active member of Stonecroft Ministries for over 15 years.

A visitation and gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jeter and Son Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service and interment will take place at Laurel Land immediately following the service.
