Dan Vang "Vang A Sy", age 80, passed away on January 29, 2026. He was born on November 11, 1945 in Vietnam to Lin and Pan Thi Hoang.

In 1975, he made the difficult decision to leave his homeland and move to the United States, arriving as a refugee in Des Moines, Iowa. Dan worked as a dedicated ESL teacher until his retirement in 2010. After 40 years in Iowa, he moved to be near his grandchildren in Grand Prairie, Texas. Dan was an avid fisherman, hunter, and camper. He could be found along the many lakes and rivers in both Iowa and Texas, fishing and relaxing with friends. He was also fond of cooking and traveling, but what he truly loved most was spending time with his grandchildren.

Though Dan may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of paternal love honored. His many sacrifices and hard work throughout his life were for the betterment of his family, showing how courageous, resilient, and respectable of a man he was.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Lin and Pan Thi Hoang. He is survived by his wife, Tammy "Thenekham"; daughters, Pam "Sengmany" (Jim) and Viladda (Hicham); granddaughters, Hadiyah, Soriyah, and Leena; sisters, Mai (Dom) and Y "Buc" (Ngoc); nephew Phet (Nathalie); nieces Chum, Donna, and Diane (Sean); great nephews Theo and Tom, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Jeter & Son Funeral Home, located at 4830 West Illinois Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75211.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
