Obituary

Betty Jewell, of Dallas, Texas, was born on September 30, 1942, and passed away on January 17, 2026.

Betty was a devoted and faithful member of Gospel Lighthouse Church, where she served for more than two decades. She lovingly prepared and served water and tea for Wednesday night meals and mentored young girls as a Missionettes teacher. She also spent countless hours in her kitchen baking Valentine's and Easter cookies for Missionettes bake sales, always serving with a joyful and generous heart.

In addition to her service to the church and community, Betty was a dedicated insurance agent for more than 60 years. She took great pride in her work and built lasting relationships with clients who became friends, serving them with the same integrity and care that defined every part of her life.

Betty will be remembered by many as the lady who made pear preserves. By those closest to her, she will also be remembered for her deep generosity and quiet acts of kindness. For many years, she donated money and gift cards to the church at Christmastime to help families in need. She sponsored multiple scholarships for children and youth to attend summer camp, as well as tuition scholarships for students at Lighthouse Christian Academy. Her giving spirit touched countless lives.

Betty also cherished time with her family and spent many summers loading up the Suburban for vacations together. Her most frequently visited destination was Branson, Missouri, where she especially enjoyed shopping and attending a variety of live shows, creating lasting memories with those she loved.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William "Bill" Jewell, and her youngest brother, Dan Davis. She is survived by her daughter, René (Michael) Rooney; brothers, Eddie Davis and Jack Davis; her grandchildren, Christopher (Billie) Rooney, David (Keli) Rooney, and Michele (Kevin) Chamberlain; her goddaughter, Alexandra Russel; and nine cherished great-grandchildren.
