Betty Jo
Cherry
Sep 24, 1929 — Feb 10, 2025
Betty Jo Grove Cherry passed peacefully from us on February 10, 2025,
at age 95, to be welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, Bill Cherry
and her Lord Jesus Christ. She leaves us with a legacy of faith, family, and
friendship.
Betty was born to Everett and Caledonia McGregor Grove on September 24,
1929, in Waurika, Oklahoma. She grew up in Ryan, Oklahoma with her
brothers. Truman, Lawrence and Harold (Son), and her loving sister Emogene.
After graduating from Waurika High School, Betty moved to Oklahoma City.
There she met a young man named Billy D Cherry, and they were married on
September 11, 1954. Betty and Bill left Oklahoma City for Kansas, then
Houston, and finally Dallas, Texas. where they built a life grounded in faith
and friends and centered at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.
Betty's life was shared with her family who were the center of her world:
Karen Cherry Tilley, Kevin Cherry, and Kristen Cherry Nedelkoff were
blessed to call her mother. She also was blessed with a son-in-law, Mike
Tilley, and a daughter-in-law, Kris Atwood Cherry. As grandmother to Mat
and Ellen Tilley, Kyle Tilley, Megan Tilley Thomas and Josh Thomas, Kevin
Tilley, Brett Nedelkoff Fedonni and Dani Fedonni, Geoffrey Nedelkoff, Cale
Cherry, Ethan and Jamie Cherry, Estelle Cherry and Josephine Cherry, Betty
filled their lives and hers with boundless joy, and she gave each of them
unwavering support. Her joy in her family grew with the arrival of her great
grandchildren, Maggie Thomas, Britton Thoms, Will Thomas, BrynneLee
Caras, Madelyn Tilley, and Claire Tilley. She also cherished her sister, Emo-
gene, and her family, her brothers and their families, her cousins, nieces, and
nephews, and her friends at First Baptist Church Dallas and other churches,
who all experienced her love, compassion, and friendship.
As we remember Betty, we extend our heartfelt thanks to those who provided
her with care and comfort in her final days. Our gratitude goes to Joy
Mmbifwa, Wedzerai (Needmore) Kanyumbu, her other caregivers, and 3 Oaks
Hospice, whose love, care, and kindness brought much comfort Betty and our
family.
Betty's life was a testament to the power of a faith filled heart, as she touched
countless hearts with her warmth, generosity, and selflessness. Her faith
guided her through many challenges and was a source of strength and comfort
to all who knew her. Her influence lives on, as each life she touched will be
forever changed.
Our hope and assurance in Christ Jesus comforts us
that we will be with her again.
